If you have been following the fun with Flickr, here is the final chapter! I received the second response from my queries about commercial use of Flickr and below is the Skinny.

” Hello Lauren,

I understand your concern but, at the moment, Flickr accounts are for individual use only. However, you may be interested in our Groups feature. Groups on Flickr are a great way for various users’ to pool photos based on a common theme. You can find out more about our Groups feature here:

How to Benefit Your Business Using LinkedIn

View CommentsPosted by ISP Media on October 16th, 2009

So you have signed up to, or agreed to a request from a colleague to join LinkedIn and benefit from networking globally – now what?

How do you use it?

How can it help you and grow your business?

Here are some simple tips for making the most of your LinkedIn account.

 Branding

  • Use your business email address in your profile contact details (not your hotmail or Gmail account). This is a professional online business networking tool, so optimise your information and accessibility.
  • Personalise your web addresses on your profile, i.e. edit the accompanying text to your business name, do not leave it as “website”
  • Use your profile as an opportunity to showcase your personal brand by providing details of your current position, your work history, achievements, successes and memberships.
  • Personalise your LinkedIn profile URL by changing the provided URL to your name or your company name, e.g. http://www.linkedin.com/in/laurenneilson
  • Post questions for others if you need help and answer questions for others if you can help, providing solutions within your expertise can lead to new networks.
  • Customise your corporate profile and add relevant and personalised data so you can enhance your profile.

 Business

  • Include your LinkedIn Personal URL in your professional email signature so that people can click on it to view your profile, reference your work and join your network.
  • Educate your business contacts about the benefits of LinkedIn to enhance your network and potentially theirs.
  • Use the Q&A section on the LinkedIn website to discover trends in your industry. By browsing the topics that other people are discussing you could discover new ideas, avenues and opportunities for your business.
  • Give and ask for recommendations – happy clients, associates and colleagues may be pleased to recommend you, and thereby help you to build your credibility and brand image, to increase your chances of attracting business enquiries through LinkedIn.
  • Link your company blog in your profile, introducing it to your network and a global professional community.

 Media

  • Did you know that media are increasingly using LinkedIn for research on people and organisations for stories?
  • Include your LinkedIn Personal URL in every media release you send to enable media to access your information for their research.
  • Use one of your “spare” web addresses inside your main profile to link directly to your NEWS landing page on your main company website and so assist media to access your business details. Remember to rename the link to say “Company News” so that media can find what they need quickly.

 Resources

Finally, why not provide this information to your contacts, especially as they accept your invitation, so they too can get the most out of their new LinkedIn account!

A Flickr of Hope … V2

View CommentsPosted by ISP Media on October 12th, 2009

I recently blogged about Flickr and the value for business,

” With so many new social media sites (e.g. Facebook), ecommerce platforms (e.g. eBay), media (e.g. Source Bottle) and article banks(e.g. Free Sticky) popping up, navigating the World Wide Web is becoming a mammoth task for business owner’s everywhere!

On top of the day to day operational aspects of your business, you now have to contend with finding, and then becoming a part of, the “next big thing” online that claims it is going to forever change the way your business communicates online, explode your online earnings and increase your brand exponentially!

Frankly it is a daunting task to even the most tech savvy business owners and I would hazard a guess that not many of you would have unlimited time and resources to research and analyse every single site’s value to your business?

So I am going to do it for you and I will try and be as succinct as I can. One by one, I will be researching, analysing, summarising and providing “The Skinny” on sites across the web that could be useful for Australian business.

First cab off the rank is Flickr!

Flickr is known as one of the most popular image sharing sites across the globe (7th most trafficked social networking site on the web); it comes with a formidable amount of features that also makes it qualify as a social networking site. At a surface glance, Flickr’s popularity, structure and features appear to make it an ideal vehicle for business promotion and SEO.”

(You can read the rest here if you are interested)

The end result was, as per Flickr’s guidelines, using the service to futher your business, products or yourself is a violation, so I contacted the “Flickereenos” directly to ascertain the future vision of Flickr and whether this involves business being able to use it as a viable SEO tactic, and to their credit, they swiftly replied with the below …

While the information is great and the response time was fantastic, unfortunately the question of using Flickr as an SEO tactic has not been answered!

I have since responded to the team with a more direct question about Flickr as an SEO  business tactic and am awaiting their round two response – I will keep you posted!
