Archive for the ‘Networking’ Category

I’ve been reading a lot of marketing-related books and blogs lately, and they all seem to be screaming out a number of ways you can improve your business.

One of the ways they recommend promoting your business is to show that you are an expert in your field, offering the highest level of expertise that any provider could possibly posses.

But today, with everyone flashing their credentials to get customers through the door, is it just me, or has credibility become an issue here?

In an age where everyone claims to be an expert, you can’t just rely on this ‘expertness’ to make you stand out from the crowd. Customers have become overwhelmed when trying to make the right choices.

For this reason, it makes common sense for service providers to revert back to good old fashioned values, ensuring that buyers can not only get the product they want, but also the unforgettable customer experience to go with it.

Customer satisfaction and understanding is such a simple concept, yet it often seems to be ignored. Let me give you an example. The other day, I walked into Optus to upgrade my mobile phone plan. I went out of my way on a busy working day, to personally venture in-store and ask the staff to change the plan for me. Instead of helping, I was told to call Optus myself, and get the operators to do it over the phone.

Was this a joke? I was in the store – why couldn’t the in-store staff upgrade my phone plan for me on the spot? It seems that even asking for help on a face-to-face basis has become a rare success for many customers.

I strongly believe that people value good service far beyond dealing with companies who claim the expertise. And I’m not wrong. According to a 2009 IBIS report, “factors such as trust, reputation, warranty and add-on services affect a consumer’s decision,” when customers consider who to spend money with.

Ok, so you’re company might not be as big as Optus, but you get the idea. Do the world a favour and treat your clients like people, not income – you might just actually help them find what they want. And once that happens, they’re going to tell all their friends and family about it.

In conclusion, if you want to get ahead in an increasingly competitive marketplace, be aware that the best customer experience and word-of-mouth referrals are now the most valuable marketing tools you can possess.

Needless to say, if you can combine your ‘expertness’ with a fantastic level of customer satisfaction, be braced for the phone calls you may receive from just the one client, as more customers revert back to appreciating good old-fashioned service.

TweetMeme Is Good For Business

View CommentsPosted by ISP Media on March 15th, 2010

“This post was originally written for and published on the Womens Network Australia Blog

Since Twitter has reared its popular head around the web, there seem to be more chicklets (A chicklet is a feed button that normally contains a feed reader logo and has a specific blog or feed information attached to it. It is coded to easily allow users to subscribe to a feed), plug-ins , buttons and widgets than you can poke a stick at! One in particular that you may have noticed popping up on many a blog or website is the ReTweet button!

The ReTweet button (FYI – ReTweets are like personal recommendations of valued information on Twitter) and the TweetMeme aggregator service are very nifty little tools for the savvy social marketer and are slowly gaining popularity around the webisphere!  Together, they are the brain child of a web company called fav.or.it, located in London, who says that they are passionate about Twitter, Social Media and whole lot more!  I tend to agree with them.

What the site developers believe the purpose of their site is.

“TweetMeme is a service which aggregates all the popular links on Twitter to determine which links are popular. TweetMeme categorises these links into Categories, Subcategories and Channels, making it easy to filter out the noise to find what you’re interested in.”

How easy it is to open an account, use the site and what does it cost?

Joining and using TweetMeme is as free and simple as logging into Twitter! You will, obviously need a Twitter account up and running to use this service, however, if you do not have one they will happily redirect you through to Twitter to sign up (also free).

The site is very simple to use and has a familiar aggregator layout and feel to it, so if you are comfortable  using feed readers and twitter – it should take you no time at all to get tweetmeme”ing”.

Will this site bend the time space continuum to suck my valuable time into a vortex?

No … well it shouldn’t (warningonline aggregator addiction could be an ugly side affect of using this site). This site, like any other aggregator platform (e.g. Digg, Feed Burner, Google Reader, etc) is purely a place for you to categorise your interests and find what you need quickly, with less noise and clutter.

How can I use this site to benefit my business?

The TweetMeme site not only acts as an excellent aggregator service, the team behind the site is also the brain child behind the ReTweet button that you would have seen on many blogs and websites.

Different ways to take advantage of TweetMeme and the ReTweet button:

  • Using the TweetMeme button you can discover new content and tweet about it, allowing you to get valuable information to your followers in real time.
  • The button provides a fully integrated URL shortener and the title of the story on each page.
  • Each link that is posted to Twitter adds one ‘vote’ to the tweet count for that story, the more ‘votes’ or retweets you get the more people are likely to be interested in what you have to say and then retweet it themselves.
  • If a story gets enough tweets (or as they say, “reaches critical mass”) then it makes it into their top 10 on the front page of TweetMeme and receives a tweet through the TweetMeme account. (If you get on the front page of TweetMeme you can be seen by millions of web users, a great way to increase your brand presence and online credibility)
  • Each story on the TweetMeme website has its own retweet button which integrates both the current number of tweets that a story has, and easily allows you ReTweet the link through your Twitter account. (Kind of like having double the ReTweet power, i.e. you get twice as many opportunities for people to retweet or recommend your information.)
  • Once again, the conversation is as important as the information. You can leave comments on every story featured on TweetMeme, with the option of retweeting the best comments out to the Twittersphere (yet another opportunity to provide value and confirm credibility).
  • Searching on the site is handy too! You can look for stories posted on Twitter, and discover and share new content – whether you wrote it or not!
  • By installing the retweet button on your blog or website, you can allow your readers to easily share your information and ReTweet them direct from your site.

The Skinny!

This is a simple and easy to use website, with a fantastic tool that every business owner who blogs or posts information online should be using.

It integrates with almost every platform (e.g. Wordpress, Blogger, etc) and will take next to no time for your web developer to add it to your site. Once it is there, it becomes an automatic generator for your content to the world!

There is no perfect formula to get people to ReTweet your posts, however as always, if you provide good quality information that is relevant and appealing, you can use this online vehicle to drive quality traffic to your Twitter account, which will in turn direct users to your blog and website.

View CommentsPosted by ISP Media on March 2nd, 2010

LinkedIn_PeopleClifford Rosenberg, Managing Director, LinkedIn Australia, sent through a warm greeting this morning from their new office in Sydney!

Turns out that the LinkedIn Australia membership has passed the 1 million mark! This is fantastic news for the serious professionals who are connected through the rapidly growing community.

Using LinkedIn provides a distinct advantage over other professionals and with with 60 million global members, you are now just one click or search away from your next opportunity.

The top tip that Clifford passed along from successful members is to complete your profile – This ensures the best visibility in searches by other LinkedIn members looking for your expertise and experience.

We here at ISP Media are big fans of using LinkedIn, so if you want more tips and ideas on how to use LinkedIn to benefit your business, visit our post here!

So you have signed up to, or agreed to a request from a colleague to join LinkedIn and benefit from networking globally – now what?

How do you use it?

How can it help you and grow your business?

Here are some simple tips for making the most of your LinkedIn account.

 Branding

  • Use your business email address in your profile contact details (not your hotmail or Gmail account). This is a professional online business networking tool, so optimise your information and accessibility.
  • Personalise your web addresses on your profile, i.e. edit the accompanying text to your business name, do not leave it as “website”
  • Use your profile as an opportunity to showcase your personal brand by providing details of your current position, your work history, achievements, successes and memberships.
  • Personalise your LinkedIn profile URL by changing the provided URL to your name or your company name, e.g. http://www.linkedin.com/in/laurenneilson
  • Post questions for others if you need help and answer questions for others if you can help, providing solutions within your expertise can lead to new networks.
  • Customise your corporate profile and add relevant and personalised data so you can enhance your profile.

 Business

  • Include your LinkedIn Personal URL in your professional email signature so that people can click on it to view your profile, reference your work and join your network (or get tricky and dowload the icon and embed the link)
  • Educate your business contacts about the benefits of LinkedIn to enhance your network and potentially theirs.
  • Use the Q&A section on the LinkedIn website to discover trends in your industry. By browsing the topics that other people are discussing you could discover new ideas, avenues and opportunities for your business.
  • Give and ask for recommendations – happy clients, associates and colleagues may be pleased to recommend you, and thereby help you to build your credibility and brand image, to increase your chances of attracting business enquiries through LinkedIn.
  • Create your company page to further showcase your business to your network and the global community, e.g. http://www.linkedin.com/companies/isp-media
  • Link your professional Twitter account to your profile (when you add your Twitter account, your tweets automaticall appear in your network updates to keep your updates fresh)
  • Create or join a group and find like minded professionals to communicate and brainstorm with.
  • If you use the ever popular iPhone, then why not grab their LinkedIn App so you can LinkIn on the go
  • Link your company blog in your profile, introducing it to your network and a global professional community.

 Media

  • Did you know that media are increasingly using LinkedIn for research on people and organisations for stories?
  • Include your LinkedIn Personal URL in every media release you send to enable media to access your information for their research.
  • Use one of your “spare” web addresses inside your main profile to link directly to your NEWS landing page on your main company website and so assist media to access your business details. Remember to rename the link to say “Company News” so that media can find what they need quickly.

 Resources

Finally, why not provide this information to your contacts, especially as they accept your invitation, so they too can get the most out of their new LinkedIn account!

Something I would like to share with you all is a great experience I had earlier today!

I was recently profiled as Feature Member by the Womens Network Australia (Yay for me!) and from that I received a wonderful email from a fellow WNA networker!

Natalie and I chatted away over email (fabulous lady), we snuk a peek at each others websites and blogs, discovered shared interests and discussed working together in the future! All in all a great connection and wonderful new contact.

That is not the only exciting thing though… later as I was scrolling through my tweets, I noticed a call out from a follower who was looking for a good copywriter / editor to assist with a long term contract! I immediately thought of Natalie and supplied her details to Cam! They were instantly connected and have set up a meeting to catch up next week to discuss the contract!

How amazing is that!

I just wanted to share that with you all in case there was anyone out there who still thinks that Twitter (or networking for that matter) is not a useful business tool!

Have a fantastic remainder of your day!
